Consisting of Los Angeles-based studio players, Jango is a group that has focused on Steely Dan/Toto-influenced soft rock/adult contemporary vocals as well as instrumental NAC/crossover music. The Jango project came about in 1998, when singer/saxophonist Steve Nieves (who had recorded as a leader for the now-defunct JMI label) and keyboardist Steve Le Gassick joined forces with guitarist Nick Kirgo, bassist Leon Johnson and drummer Dave Beyer. All of the musicians had been quite active in the L.A. studio scene. Jango signed with Gold Circle Records in 1998, and its CD “Dreamtown” came out in early 1999  “Closer to Home” followed a year later. In 2000 the band played at the “North Sea Jazz festival “in Holland and had much airplay at BBC Radio 2 and Radio 2 in Holland with the song “City Of The 2nd Chance “.

Steve LeGassick has written and recorded with well known artists such as Smokey Robinson, Etta James, Rita Coolidge, Stephanie Mills, The Temptations, etc. has now teamed up with veteran songwriters Michael Price and Dan Walsh (“Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” – covered by Jay-Z and Paul Carrack) to write the title cut “Red Ray Dawn” and several other songs for the new Jango album.  He has also been writing with Brian Ray (of the Paul McCartney band) for his upcoming solo album and contributing songs for independent movies.
