Tom Wilson is a
larger-than-life figure of a man whose unstoppable
personality can fill a room. His piercing eyes and dynamic
performances are coupled with a voice that is instantly
recognizable in a crowd. A writer and performer of many
years, Wilson’s eclectic, character-driven musical
style has ranged from the Psychobilly punch of the Florida
Razors, to the popular rock/roots sensibilities of Blackie
& The Rodeo Kings and the funk/blues inspired rock of
Junkhouse.
An iconic Canadian band, Junkhouse was formed in 1990. The
band produced critically acclaimed albums and toured
extensively across Canada, the USA and Europe. In 2001
Wilson made the decision to release a solo album Planet
Love which featured the smash hit Dig It.
Tom’s career with the Juno award winning Blackie and
the Rodeo Kings has flourished with their three releases,
High or Hurtin (1996), Kings of Love (1999) and their
recent album BARK! (2003). In support of the album, Tom
along with band mates Stephen Fearing and Colin Linden
crisscrossed the North American landscape with an extensive
list of tour dates including the USA and a tour across
Canada with country legend Merle Haggard.
Tom Wilson has established himself as one of Canada’s
finest songwriters. His name appears on the credits and
cre-ations on a growing list of artists and collaborators,
including Colin James, Liam Titcomb, Stephen Fearing, David
Gogo, Adam Gregory, Randy Scruggs, Billy Rae Cyrus, Jimmy
Rankin, and Craig Northey.
On Dog Years, Wilson enlisted the services of Blackie band
mate and long time friend Colin Linden to handle the
production and electric guitar duties. Along with guest
appearances from Rosanne Cash, Garry Tallent (E Street
Band), Bob Babbit (Funk Brothers) and Dave Roe (Johnny
Cash, Jerry Reed), Tom is joined by Bryan Owings and Tom
Hambridge (Drums) and Richard Bell (keyboards).
“This CD is all about the importance of interacting
with human beings” states Wilson. “I’m
not a guitar slinger, the sound of the base guitar is very
important to me and working with all these legendary
players was inspirational”.
