My Little Red Bag

James Kakande
As a schoolboy James Kakande would frequently sneak out of math lessons in order to play the school piano and was eventually expelled when he even trying to steal it in broad daylight.
He begged and begged his mother for a guitar which he eventually got, only to have it smahed on his back by an irate mother angered by James’ wild attempts to master his new toy.
James’ creative energy was and is so vast it overwhelms him to a point where travel and musical encounters are his only remedy. Much of his experiences can be found again in his poetic song lyrics.
Being a self tought player of five instruments, James is a rare talent - avant-garde yet accessible.
One cold February day James, on the advice of a good friend, set off to Peppermint Jam in Hannover, Germany to see Mousse T. At the time James busked the streets of Paris in order to live but sold his guitar to hitchhike his way to Hannover.
After 30 hour travel James arrived un-announced in Mousse T.’s HQ Peppermint Pavillion where after several hours wait he finally got to play Mousse T. four very rough songs.
Mousse T. loved the material and asked James if he could produce one of the songs “Just Look At Us Now” for his “All Nite Madness” album James’ reply was one of relaxed relief, having not slept for 48 hours: “Sure you can.” pronounced the 30 year old artist
“Just Look At Us Now” is a soulful Waltz which paints a picture of Charly Chaplin looking in the mirror of his dressing room after his final stage performance. A very moving work which is just a tiny reflection of the musical ability of James Kakande.
James has finished work on his solo album entitled “Little Red Bag” to be released in Holland, Belgium and Germany on June 12th, 2006.
