Colin Vearncombe announces first Black album in over ten
years
Hilversum, December
16th, 2005 - Colin Vearncombe,
the singer-songwriter best known for ‘Wonderful
Life’ and ‘Sweetest Smile’, has announced
his first album release under the name ‘Black’
since 1993’s ‘Are we having fun yet?’.
The new album, entitled ‘Between two churches’,
will be released 30
January 2006 on Colin
Vearncombe’s own label Nero Schwarz thru Go
Entertainment in Benelux.
Since 1997, Colin has released four solo studio albums (one
of them double) and supported them with tours, which have
been documented by three live albums. While two of the solo
studio albums were all-acoustic, the new album marks a
return to the lavish production and electric-guitar-driven
pop that characterised the landmark Black albums of the
eighties.
The new album includes twelve new songs:
Come Out of the Rain
Cold Chicken Skin
Charlemagne
Teenage Wall
Same Mistake Twice
In a Heartbeat
Two Churches
If You’re All done Dying
Signal Black Spot
Her Coat and no Knickers
Are You Having a Wonderful Life?
History of Rock’n’roll Part 1
The album was produced by Calum MacColl. Calum’s
songwriting, production and performance credits include
work with Brian Kennedy, Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, the
Backstreet Boys, Ronan Keating, Natalie Imbruglia, Cathy
Dennis, and Christie Hennessy.
The album release was preceded by the first
‘Black’ tour in over ten years, where songs
from the new album were debuted and performed alongside
highlights from the Black back catalogue. A limited edition
EP containing four tracks from the new album has been
released and was only sold on this tour. Colin Vearncombe
says he has returned to using the name Black because
“the ambiguity gives me valuable freedom as a
singer/songwriter".
The
singles ‘Wonderful Life’ and ‘Sweetest
Smile’ were both top ten hits for Black in 1988,
driving the album ‘Wonderful Life’ to the
number 3 spot. The album achieved gold status, selling in
excess of two million copies worldwide, and was followed by
the critically acclaimed albums ‘Comedy’,
‘Black’ and ‘Are We Having Fun
Yet?’.
