The Zombies

“The f…… Zombies are probably the best band in world history other than Zeppelin…” Courtney Love.

No mean statement. Yet for a band that hasn’t existed for 35 years they still exert a huge influence on contemporary music. And that influence is about to reach even further….

The Zombies were one of a few English bands to enjoy true global popularity in the ‘60s – witness two US number ones and 30,000-plus crowds in the Philippines – but the band also had several remarkable attributes to set them apart.

Building upon the standard R&B and rock ‘n’ roll influences, the quality of Rod Argent and Chris White’s songwriting was lent an extra dimension by the distinctive voice of Colin Blunstone. Simply put, The Zombies’ records are some of the best produced and distinctive in all pop music (Their final album, Odessey & Oracle, recently ranked at 80 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time).

The Zombies’ music still sells. One of the most enigmatic, challenging and era–defining groups of all time, there has always been interest in them. But why have they chosen to return now? Founder member Rod Argent explains, “Ever since the Zombies split up in 1967, we have always resisted reforming. On many occasions we've been offered a lot of money - imagine, for instance the situation in 1969 when "Time Of The Season" was no.1 in the Cashbox charts - but we have always wanted to look forward, and it has always seemed wrong to get back together again simply to make a quick buck.”

Two or three years ago, however, Colin and I found ourselves working together almost by accident, and only the fact that things felt so natural led us into a full time working situation.
